I have a lot of time off (lately)
and I'm confined to my room with my computer & iphone for entertainment! LOL
My unit got flooded last week and the unit is trashed until someone can come and relay the carpets!

That makes it very tough for him, gosh sometimes I wonder if the record companies have the artist's best interests as the Number 1 priority. I am sure he will debut in the top 5 but he could of got closer to Number 1 if they had not released early.

    RobynH99 wrote:OK - here is a theory.
They want him to debut in the charts at already Gold. Gold isn't week dependent, it is total sales. They shipped Gold, I think the marketing ploy is to have his album debut in the charts already Gold.
As mentioned if the album has shipped gold it will be officially gold on the ARIA site no matter how much it sold. Accreditations are calculated by the record company and are determined by shipped units, not real sales. As long as they prove to ARIA the cds have been distributed it doesn't matter how many sell, ARIA will grant the accreditation. WolfMother's Cosmic Egg went platinum with only 16,000 sales. It is almost out of the top 50 after only a few more thousand sales, but will be forever platinum even if it only ever sells half that amount Wink

Good news on the sales front anyway. Sanity update their best seller's chart a couple of times a week. Stan has moved to #4,

    http://www.sanity.com.au/ChartHome.aspx?ct=Best%20Sellers&cat=5

but is really at #3 because the So Fresh cd will chart on the ARIA compilation chart, not the album chart. So really it is only Susan and Michael outselling him at the Sanity/Virgin/HMV stores at the moment.

Sammy wrote:I have asked AuspOp who have ARIA contacts, if they can find out why the album was not included in the chart this week. Here is the ARIA rule from the code of practice which shows Stan's sales in the first three days cannot be included in the chart next week.

2.3. A Product is not eligible for inclusion in an ARIA Chart unless the Record Supplier makes a
written request to ARIA in accordance with the Data Rules (see Section 3). The request will
specify the date from which the chart survey is to commence. Sales prior to that date or
outside any charting period will not be included in the calculation of charts in that period and
cannot be carried forward or transferred into any other charting period.

    http://www.aria.com.au/pages/documents/Charts%20Code%20of%20Practice.pdf

There is another possible reason. Sometimes ARIA does make mistakes. Chris Brown was included in the digital sales a few weeks ago, when the song was being given away as a promotion, so were not elligible for inclusion, and they even put a Swedish act in the Australian chart a few months ago by mistake. Maybe the late decision to release the album early caused a hiccup. Anyway Auspop Chart watch shows that Susan Boyle is selling at amazing levels. Over 85,000 sales this week, and Michael Buble sold over 25,000. But outside of those two, sales were less than 10,000. Stan will chart well next week Big Smile

Doesn't mean they won't count overall for the ARIA year though, depending on when the request was registered. He may not have had enough for this charting period - and there can be delays in retailers reporting sales.

Sanity is one of the biggest cd sellers in Australia. The reason cd shops tend to sell more cds than department stores is because they are usually better organised and keep their stock up to date. They also have people who know what you are talking about when you make enquiries, unlike the places like KMart and Target. Also the cd shops themselves do the ordering, whereas the department stores just get issued from a central warehouse. Try asking about a cd you can't find at a KMart store and see how far you get Wink

Have you got such and such a cd in?

Err, don't know. If its not on the shelf probably not.

But I can't find it anywhere and it is a new release and high up in the ARIA chart.

Oh well it hasn't come in yet then. Or maybe it is out the back and we haven't unpacked it yet.

    Can you look?

    Nah. Sorry too busy.

So true Sammy..lol..and they are not even helpful when you are looking for something at the store!! why people want to run into a shop that you can get what you want then out again so your very right about that! with xmas coming soon even worse easier to go into Sanity then stand in line at Kmart etc..

    Agree with Sammy.

Old adage - you get what you pay for. JBs can be good or bad, depending on the day. They are cheaper than Sanity, but I HATE shopping there unless it is as soon as the doors open in the morning before the crowds hit.

JB is a little bit of a disaster zone sometimes. They are very rock, indi and alternative music orientated as well. If they don't have a cd in their chart, or in a special display, it is sometimes hard to find what you are looking for. Their shelves are sometimes totally disorganised. But again they are not a specialist cd shop, and unfortunately they are now the biggest cd retailer in Australia. They took over from Sanity/Virgin when they started closing shops. Or maybe the shops were closed because JB were pricing them out. JB now sell more than 40% of the cds in Australia. Some of the pop acts have suffered because of JB's inclination to promote their favourite genres. Stan will be ok there though. Surely well promoted in all stores in Australia, just like Susan. Great to see the album came in at #2 in NZ and going platinum (15,000 units). That would not have been a full week of sales for him, so I reckon next week he will give Susan a run for her money.

Interesting to see Purple Rain moving up on Australian itunes too, #40 now. Songs don't have to be officially released as a single to chart now. The rules were changed last year. If Sony asks ARIA to count, Stan could have 2 songs in the ARIA chart either this week or next. Not bad with no radio play for that song Big Smile

The ARIA charts are the main Australian music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The charts are a record of the highest selling singles and albums in various genres in Australia.

    you ... evil twin

Nawwww... that's great for Stanilicious no. 3 .... was hoping for no.2 but that's ok... last week sales weren't counted in and that's when the die hard fans bought his album as we were aware of the early release... i personally bought 3 copies (2physical 1dwnl) before friday.... so my sales don't count and I wonder... what about the pre-ordered copies? I pre-ordeder one also... do those count?

Look on the bright side. If he hasn't reached #1 it might mean we'll see more of him promoting to get to #1? I'm sure he said in an interview I saw that he wasnted a #1!

Personally I could use a bit more eye and ear candy! :)
