Idol Stan to take Tuncurry stage
    21 Jul, 2010 09:14 AM
AUSTRALIAN Idol winner Stan Walker will headline the North Coast TAFE’s popular Deadly Days Festival when it makes a return to Tuncurry in September.
Ernie Dingo will host the tour as it makes stops in Tuncurry, Kempsey and Casino.

As well as performances by last year’s Australian Idol winner the event will include a program of action learning and activities for Aboriginal communities up and down the coast.

“I was so thrilled to be invited to be part of this, Jessica Mauboy did it last year and told me how deadly it was,” Stan said.

“I can’t wait to meet you all and perform for you.”

North Coast TAFE director of Aboriginal Learning Partnerships, Heather McGregor said that last year’s festivals attracted over 2000 students from 115 schools from as far away as Tamworth and Penrith.

“We also had hundreds of Aboriginal community members and elders attend and over 140 business and careers exhibitors engage in education and employment activities,” Ms McGregor said.

She said the day is a “come one, come all event”, with performances by the headline acts, popular hip hop workshops, sessions with sporting heroes and other high profile Aboriginal people and healthy cultural food on the menu.

“We have also scheduled a huge North Coast-wide program of Deadly Skills Days, which will involve hands-on learning vocational activities and Try-a-Trade workshops at nearly all of our 17 campuses.”

Funded by the Australian Government as part of the Community Festivals for Education Engagement initiative, and staged by North Coast TAFE’s Aboriginal Learning Partnerships (NCALP) Team, the festivals encourage increased participation by young Aboriginal people in education, training and employment.

The Deadly Days Festival will visit Great Lakes TAFE Campus on Friday September 3 from 9am to 3pm.

Australian Idol Stan Walker leads new Deadly Days line-up

    http://northcoast.tafensw.edu.au/aboutUs/News/Pages/AustralianIdolStanWalkerleadsnewDeadlyDaysline-up.aspx

Stan Walker, the winner of last year’s
Australian Idol, will perform at all three
    Deadly Days Festivals.

North Coast TAFE’s popular ‘Deadly Days’ Festivals return in September with great entertainment and a big program of action learning and activities for the Aboriginal communities up and down the North Coast of NSW.

Stan Walker, the winner of last year’s Australian Idol, will perform at all three Festivals.

“I was so thrilled to be invited to be part of this – Jessica Mauboy did it last year and told me how deadly it was – I can’t wait to meet you all and perform for you,” said Stan.

He will be joined by another Australian idol, Ernie Dingo, who will host the three events.

Funded by the Australian Government as part of the Community Festivals for Education Engagement initiative, and staged by North Coast TAFE’s Aboriginal Learning Partnerships (NCALP) Team, the Festivals encourage increased participation by young Aboriginal people in education, training and employment.

North Coast TAFE Director of Aboriginal Learning Partnerships, Ms Heather McGregor says that last year’s Festivals attracted over 2,000 students from 115 schools from as far away as Tamworth and Penrith.

“We also had hundreds of Aboriginal community members and elders attend and over 140 business and careers exhibitors engage in education and employment activities,” added Ms McGregor.

“This year our Casino, Kempsey and Great Lakes Campuses will host the Deadly Days Festival day,” says Ms McGregor.

Ms McGregor says that the day is a ‘come one, come all’ event, with performances by the headline acts, popular Hip Hop workshops, sessions with sporting heroes and other high profile Aboriginal people and healthy cultural food on the menu.

“We have also scheduled a huge North Coast-wide program of Deadly Skills Days, which will involve hands-on learning vocational activities and Try-a-Trade workshops at nearly all of our 17 campuses,” says Ms McGregor.

The Deadly Days Festival day for the three campuses is as follows:

Casino ‘Queen Elizabeth Park’: Wednesday 1 September 2010 9am-3pm

Kempsey TAFE Campus: Thursday 2 September 2010 9am-3pm

Great Lakes TAFE Campus: Friday 3 September 2010 9am-3pm

Thanks so much Andrea, how kind of you. Abigail(3) and I were in the mall at lunchtime today and we walked past a shop that had "Unbroken" playing inside and Abigail suddenly piped up in a loud and excited voice "Stan!!" then "Sophie likes Stan!" then she said "I like Stan too!" which is unusual for her as she normally says "I don't like Stan (or Dan as she calls him!) I like Bob the Builder!". Big Grin2
